Blackhawks Grizzly (PP-005791) is a result of a breeding between I-80’s Deuces Wild and our female Paladins Allison Rox. Knowing how his mother “Alli” hunts I had a good feeling Grizzly was going to be something special and I was correct.
Grizzly has a brown medium dense coat with good furnishings. He and his mother are 65lbs and with stamina for days. During the hunting season, Grizzly spends no less than 4 days a week hunting upland, waterfowl from a boat or field blind. I would consider Grizzly to be a medium ranging field dog who loves our Iowa waters no matter how cold. He has a drive that is relentless when it comes to searching downed game but a steadiness to hold until released.
Grizzly’s demeanor is one that does not require much pressure when training for hunting or obedience and yet he retains what he learns with little to no refreshing no matter how long it's been. He has always wanted to please, responding well to verbal commands and hand signals. We have always believed in keeping our dogs in the house with us, exposing them to social interactions with other dogs as well as people. Therefore, having a good "off switch" is another trait we enjoy with both Alli and Grizzly. I’m excited to see Grizzly’s offspring and have no doubt his bloodline will continue to produce something special.

We are a family run kennel based in the Loess Hills in southwest Iowa. We have owned pudelpointers since the early 2000s and started our own breeding program ten years ago. We work hard to ensure that you receive the highest possible quality pudelpointer. We are always keenly aware that the bloodlines of these dogs are credited to those who have intentionally bred and maintained the integrity of these dogs. In 2019 we imported a male from the Czech Republic to enhance the genetics at our kennel. To those who have strived to maintain the integrity of the breed before us, we say thank you!
Our goal is to produce true versatile hunting dogs that thrive hunting for upland game as well as waterfowl, while continuing to be a great member of the family. We love to hunt almost as much as we love our dogs. We have three young kids that help us raise the puppies, bringing them up in a family environment. Our last three breedings have resulted in natural ability breeder’s awards, a tribute to the great puppy owners we have and the quality breedings. We encourage all puppy owners to join North American Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) and test their pups, we truly appreciate the hard work puppy owners do to test their pups in the NAVHDA natural ability.
When you get a pup from us, they will be registered with NAVHDA which will include a breeding restriction clause by the breeder, a one-year health guarantee that covers congenital health defects, and they will have received their first round of vaccinations and wormer. The pups will be socialized and have interactions with the other dogs in our kennel. We will introduce the pups to water, gunfire, and birds. We do not ship puppies.

A Little About Us
We purchased our first versatile dog in 2019. Shortly thereafter, I joined NAVHDA and the Heartland Chapter out of Brainard, NE. Since that time, I have tested three of my dogs in the Natural Ability Test. We hunt our dogs mostly on quail and pheasant and started raising pups in 2023. We raised one litter in 2023 and another in 2024. We plan to raise two litters in 2025. We take this responsibility very seriously making every effort to insure the puppies represent the pudelpointer breed standards, are healthy, and placed in good homes.
Our breeding program goals:
1. Selectively mate dogs that have a history of excellence in their pedigree. (We use testing results throughout their pedigree to arrive at a determination).
2. Selectively mate dogs that have produced puppies that perform well in tests. (NAVHDA test results)
3. Select sires that have been DNA tested for furnishings (homozygous for furnishings) to insure all of our puppies will have furnishings.
4. Select breeding stock that represent the quality standards of the breed.
5. Never compromise quality for quantity.
6. Stay small and stay relevant.
7. Screen placements in an effort to ensure the pup is going to a good home. Families with kids and hunt are the perfect environment for our pups.
OUR MISSION:
Top Terrace Pudelpointers is a small breeding operation located in the rolling hills of western Iowa close to Harlan. My wife, Pam, daughter, Toshia, granddaughter, Tianna, grandson, Teagon, and I all have an active role in producing puppies that will carry on the legacy of the breed. We aspire to produce puppies that will represent the breed standards, make excellent hunting companions, and be the perfect house dog willing to take a place beside you or crash in front of the fireplace. We will remain small, two breeding females, affording us the time to ensure each pup is properly socialized and has a variety of exposures prior to going to their forever home.
We are extremely selective when choosing dogs to use in our breeding program. Temperament is always one of our most important considerations. We place many of our pups in homes with children of all ages necessitating a temperament tolerant of behaviors we might expect from a child. In addition to temperament, we research pedigrees, test scores, progeny test scores, and evaluate conformation and physical traits to ascertain a dog’s “FIT” for our breeding program. Also, a stud dog must have had a DNA profile and documented genotype for furnishings. All our pups will have furnishings. Some pups may have a tighter coat than others.
Once you purchase a pup from us, you become a member of the Top Terrace family where our support is unconditional. We value our pups beyond their time in our home and make every effort to stay in touch with each of our families. Your success and satisfaction is important to us. Each puppy goes to their new home with a blanket, puppy chew toys, a bag of food, treats, a training guide for the 1st year, a health/vaccination/worming record, and a new hat with our kennel name embroidered on the front. We provide a puppy contract with a health guarantee. We also handle and cover the cost of the pup's NAVHDA registration so our buyers don't have to.
We believe prey drive to be closely associated with pedigree. Our pups will have Ripsnorter in their pedigrees. We believe in this line and are witnessing pups from this line excel in the field and in the water.
We invite you to visit our website listed in this ad to learn more about Top Terrace Pudelpointers, our dogs, and to see our puppies working the fields and water.
