What is the Shootout?
A Versatile Gundog Trial
There will be 2 Classes. Advanced and Novice. Trial will consist of an upland hunt and a waterfowl hunt. Each hunt will have its own score card and the dogs with the highest combined scores will be the winners of each division.
Upland Hunt:
Novice dogs should demonstrate willingness to hunt, ability to find birds, and teamwork with the handler. Novice dogs are not required to be steady and do not have to have a finished retrieve.
Advanced dogs should demonstrate the same abilities but at an ADVANCED level. Advanced dogs are required to be steady to wing. Shot birds must be retrieved and delivered to hand to retrieve the maximum score.
Waterfowl Hunt:
Novice dogs will be required to retrieve 2 single marks. Novice dogs are not required to be line steady and collar may be held until bird hits the water. Birds will need to be retrieved within several steps of handler.
Advanced dogs are required to retrieve a double mark. (2 birds thrown in sequential order). Advanced dogs are required to be line steady and birds must be delivered to hand.
Dogs will be judged and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded.
Running order of each will be determined by random number generator.
This is a fun event, designed to get owners of Pudelpointers together to see other dogs and enjoy socializing. Event participation is open to all. You do not have to be a NAPS member to participate though we encourage you to join and get involved. Spectators are welcome. This will be an excellent opportunity for those interested in the breed to see several dogs and meet owners and breeders alike.
